Born into a military family, Melissa Thomas experienced school in a variety of environments, locations, and demographics. Her upbringing has strongly influenced the way she believes in education, and had a huge impact on why she is an educator today. Mrs. Thomas began teaching in 2002 and has taught elementary and middle school students until 2012 when she began her role in Henry County Schools, Georgia as the Assessment and Data Response Facilitator. Initially, her work focused on a component of Georgia’s teacher evaluation system by helping teachers to create Student Learning Objective Assessments for every non-tested course in the Henry County School System. Today, she works alongside teachers to increase rigor in classrooms, and is excited to be partnered with the Assessment for Learning project to create feedback loops to increase student agency in a personalized learning environment.
